Samsung Delays Galaxy S10 Update To Enable Camera Ring Notification Light

Samsung Delays Galaxy S10 Update to Enable Camera Ring Notification Light

One of the features that many Samsung Galaxy S10 users have been waiting for is the ability to use the camera cutout as a notification light. The camera cutout, also known as the punch-hole, is a small circular hole on the display that houses the front-facing camera. Samsung has removed the traditional notification LED from the Galaxy S10 series, and some users have hoped that the camera cutout could serve as a replacement.

However, Samsung has not officially enabled this feature on the Galaxy S10 devices, and it seems that the update that would bring this functionality has been delayed. According to a report by PiunikaWeb, Samsung had planned to release an update in April 2023 that would allow users to customize the camera cutout animation and use it as a notification light. However, the update has not been rolled out yet, and there is no official word from Samsung on when it will be available.

The report cites a Samsung Care Ambassador who had suggested that the camera cutout would function as a notification light and would be automatically colored based on the notification. However, this feature has not been confirmed by Samsung, and it is unclear if it will be implemented in the future.

Meanwhile, some users have resorted to using third-party apps to enable the camera cutout notification light. One of these apps is Good Lock, which is a suite of customization tools from Samsung. Good Lock has a plugin called EdgeLighting+, which offers an effect called Eclipse that creates a ring light around the camera cutout. This effect can be used to notify users of calls, messages, and other alerts.

Another app that can enable the camera cutout notification light is aodNotify, which works on both Galaxy S and Galaxy A series devices. This app allows users to choose from different styles and colors for the camera cutout light, and also lets them adjust the brightness and duration of the notification.

Both Good Lock and aodNotify have some limitations, such as requiring the screen to be turned on or using Always on Display (AoD) mode for the notification light to work. They also may not support all apps or notifications, and may drain the battery faster than usual.

Therefore, many users are still hoping that Samsung will release an official update that will enable the camera cutout notification light natively and without any drawbacks. However, until then, users will have to either wait patiently or use alternative solutions.
